NYT Changing the Way We Interact With Their Content: My Quick Observation about Registering to Tweet Reply

I was tweeting just this morning with @Lucian about what copyright allows us to do with NYT content as well as Singapore’s Straits Times.  Shortly after, as I tried to RT a NYT story I was asked, for the first time, to register with NYT before I could use their in-built Twitter button.  I can still cut and paste the URL directly to Twitter, but if I want a one-button RT function via the NYT I now need to register.  Initially, and I have not researched this, I see nothing sinister in the move (time will tell).  But the first impression without additional research is that the NYT appears to be building some social networking capacity into their site.  Once registered people can follow you and your RTs.

More to come come, but I thought this was a timely observation.
